Private tour to Skellig Michael & Puffin Island
This route takes you to my homeland of St Finians Bay taking in the beautiful coastline of the Skellig Ring just off the Famous Ring of Kerry.
Your 2 hour boat trip will take you around Skellig Michael and Puffin Island. The Skellig Islands float on the Atlantic Ocean, just 10 miles off the coast of St Finian’s Bay in County Kerry. The Islands rugged beauty – as they scale some 700ft above you, an internationally renowned bird sanctuary, with a wonderful array of birdlife.
On Skellig Michael there are the oldest and best-preserved monasteries in Europe. Puffin Island lies just 250 metres from mainland and is a nature reserve, this island has several seabird species – Atlantic Puffins, Manx Shearwater.
The makers of Star Wars were so taken by the Skelligs Rocks beauty that they used it as a location for two Star Wars movies, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Then to fishing village of Portmagee to relax and enjoy lunch. Have your evening meal over looking the Skellig Islands from Driftwood at the Bay restaurant.

Skellig Michael
Skellig Michael and it’s neighbour Little Skellig lie 12 kilometres off the Kerry coast and are unique in every sense of the word. Rising to 218 metres, Skellig Michael, named after Saint Michael the Archangel holds the ruins of a Christian monastery founded between the 6th and 8th centuries. The monastic settlement can be reached by ascending 618 steep, unguarded steps, giving an appreciation for the hard lives these holy men led. A hermitage on the South Peak of the island is closed to the public due to its precarious approach.
Little Skellig, a short ditance away is home to up to 35,000 pairs of gannets and is a protected island.
